Re: another day in history for any 1976 fan |
anyone else besides me ever found this show really sluggish?
that said the Let it Grow is incredible especially Phil and probably my favorite Crazy Fingers ever. Never understood why they even brought it back ( talking after 76 ) if they couldnt bother to even halfway rehearse the intro

It's extremely sluggish and I find it hard to listen to unless I'm wanting to sleep. It's a great show but they pick up speed even in the next show.

Same with Jerry and Donna on THEO. Great show. The Paramont is now the Schnitzer and houses Portland's Symphony. An absolutely beautiful venue. Nice acoustics too.

THEO? They Hate Each Other??
The last photo from one of the Day on the Greens looks like a mic rig crucifix.

Re: another day in history for any 1976 fan |
haha is this the famous cross that a reviewer mentions in a review of 10/9 (or maybe 10/10) in Deadbase 10? Funny story about his friend, as well as the guy with the cross, getting busted by BG security for taping. Though we have full auds of both shows, don't we? So I guess somebody got away with it.
As for 6/3/76, I like it! Great second set jams. The show does take a while to get going, though, the first set is rather standard. It has that "sleepy electricity" common of 1976. I really like 76 overall, it really has it's own unique sound. A lot of people call it "slow" or "laid back," but a lot of it is actually pretty speedy to me. The tempos in Let it Grow and Eyes for example, are much faster than what we saw in 73/74. And the Dancin's get pretty speedy at times as well. And the newer stuff like Lazy Lightning is pretty fast paced and intense. On the other side of that you have the slowed down versions of FOTD, yet slightly faster versions of High Time than we saw in 69/70. I also rather enjoy the sleepy, spacey, ethereal versions of Slipknot! from the year.
Yet, somehow, I still agree that much of 76, esp this show, are rather laid-back. But laid-back doesn't have to be a BAD thing, right?

And did you notice that the teen girl fixing the mic appears to be wearing a crucifix? Come to think of it, the guy on the bottom left bears a strange resemblance to Jesus himself... gazing towards heaven. OK, now I'm FREAKING OUT!!!!!

76 does have that sweet sound . I have a special place for it, as I saw them 1st time this year ( admittedly in October, which is a little different feel than the earlier shows ). This show is almost hilariously laid back , but still is pretty great, and in its' slowness , unique .
